Indianapolis may be known for auto racing, but we offer surprises at every turn.
That’s the message of my new Indianapolis guidebook, “100 Things to Do in Indianapolis Before You Die,” part of a national guidebook series published by Reedy Press.
The book — essentially an Indy bucket list — chronicles the best food experiences, tourist attractions, shopping destinations and special events. The Indianapolis 500 made the list, of course, as did local institutions like St. Elmo Steak House and the Children’s Museum.
But “100 Things” isn’t just for tourists. The list also includes under-the-radar activities geared to Indy residents who want to experience more of what the Circle City has to offer.
Here’s a sneak peek at five of the Indy gems featured in the book:

Visit a Homegrown Distillery: Hotel Tango
When the weather outside is frightful, curl up with a rum-spiked apple cider near the crackling fireplace in Hotel Tango’s rustic tasting room. The artisan distillery was founded by Marine veteran Travis Barnes and his wife, Hilary, and its name consists of the owners’ initials in the military phonetic alphabet (hotel for Hilary; tango for Travis). The distillery’s spirits follow the same pattern: Victor Vodka, Romeo Rum, Mike Moonshine and Whiskey Whiskey. While you’re here, sneak a peek at the on-site stills.
